here's what i think. the sun isn't near as bad as what corporate america makes it to be. of course they are going to tell you laying out in the sun is bad. they make billions off of tanning lotion. their are theories and studies that the lotion itself can cause cancer. i know a lot of people are like well some people are to paranoid, but when the world is all about taking people's money it's not so hard to believe. i grew up in the country and have seen farmers that do not have any of these problems. of course the ozone layer is more screwed today but still. also people in foreign countries in areas like egypt and saudia arabia where it is very hot also and there are many desert areas, they have much lower statistics for skin cancer also. but then they have less products and harmful foods...i would be more worried about what i was eating, you see far more people that die of heart attack, obesity, and eating related problems than you do skin cancer anyways..

and yeah, if u lay out all day, everyday... but who has time to do that anyways. people are so busy being influenced by the media and advertising they go after all the junk they see to buy anyways. trust me, with marketing and all that is out there, you shouldn't be worried about getting a few rays, even if you don't wear sunscreen

I think everyone should wear sunscreen, and not completely "avoid" the sun.

Also, I agree with your comment about obesity..its a much bigger issue than girls/guys laying out in the sun! You can get diabetes, have heart attacks..ugh..and so much more. Lets all eat healthy and live long. :)

Believe me, the sun can be very damaging. A lot of the damage from the sun, does not show until many years later. The levels of skin cancer sufferers are increasing every year.

People in some warmer clients such as saudia arabia and egypt, have higher amounts of melanin in their skin, so their skin is more protected. However, people in hot countries such as Australia often have less melanin in their skin and do need to be very cautious in the sun.

I would suggest everyone wear sunblock on a daily basis, even during the winter, because UVA rays (which are responsible for malignant melanoma) are prevalent all year round!

I do agree, that it's not just the sun we need to be concerned about, but it is still a valid concern and should not be dismissed.

HTH.

It's good for once in a while. But if you go out alot without sunscreen it could cause skin cancer. A little is always good!

the sun is bad for you. your body tells you that it's bad for you when your skin gets burnt, and when you get dehydrated from being out in the sun too much. it tells you when you get cancer. when you get spots and dots. when you get wrinkles from it. it is, like most other things, good for you in small portions. you can't live without it, you need the vitamins that it gives. but it does harm your skin in many different ways, skin cancer only being the worst one.
