i need to take the cover off the air filter thing to take it to home depot to get a new one...but i don't have a flathead screwdriver. i don't want to drive all the way to home depot, come all the way back, get the filter, then have to return.

is there something to substitute for a flathead besides a butter knife? keeping in mind that i have one tool (a phillips head screwdriver).

a dime. and when you get your filter pick up a cheap flathead screwdriver.

perhaps a coin, depending on the size. Realize that screws and screwdrivers go together, and that using anything but the right tool tends to destroy both the hardware and the tool.

Moral-

While at the depot pick up a set of screwdrivers, because one or two is not enough to do the job properly; i would think that three sizes each of phillips and flathead should handle all the screwing around you will ever need to do.

As you are planning a trip to Home Depot, buy a new set of good mixed screwdrivers, they are inexpensive and well worth the cost.
Even better, if one phillips head screwdriver is all the tools you have, buy a tool kit. There are a few on the market, with the most common tools you need, and run from about thrity dollars to ninetly or so dollars.
They will pay for themselves, in a short time.
If you had it now, you wouldn't be in this jam, would you.?
Check with a neighbor, I'm sure they will have one, they can let you borrow for now.
