Why aren't people responsible for their own welfare? We had a direct hit from hurricane rita but we didn't expect the government to house us for months on end and provide us with clothes, toys for our kids, etc. Is it because we as a society have become so dependant on welfare handouts that people don't know how to take care of themselves or is it pure greed?

I understand your frustration,, But the United States Government is suppose to be here for the people. We pay our taxes. And when distruction happens, they are to help. Unfortunately there are people who abuse the welfare system, and abuse certain circumstances,,,which makes it so very hard for when people really do need assistance. That is why its so important for people to get out there and "vote" , vote for the people who represent your thoughts and issues.

Not sit back & expect the Government to do it all. These people dont even try, they expect....

what is government there for if not to protect the people. Also what if you were barley making it to start with and you lost everything you would need a hand out because without it you would be homeless and your kids would go hungry
