It could be a number a things...among them, some serious. My father had this problem and it was a bad infection (doesn't know from what) and he was getting septic (blood poisoning that can kill you) If you are also feeling sick...get in to the docs quick

Is the other foot swollen? Are your wrists puffy?

See you doctor and explain that you have "edema" in one of your feet. He won't laugh. There are several different conditions that can cause this. Some of the possible causes are fairly serious, so don't delay about this.

Edema is swelling of any organ or tissue due to accumulation of excess lymph fluid, without an increase of the number of cells in the affected tissue. Edema can accumulate in almost any location in the body, but the most common sites are the feet and ankles.

Keep it elevated if you can.

Are you taking any medication?
If you are it could be a reaction. See your doctor.
I've had that happen before I raised my foot for a few hours.
Or...did you get an insect bite?

My guess is a snake bite? Maybe Elephantitis? How in the world would anyone know based on what little information you gave?

Gout? Do you eat a lot of rich foods? OR dare i ask - do you indulge in any kind of illegal drugs like meth or something? I ask because i knew someone that did and had mysterious symptoms like that sometimes...

Could be too much body fluid. See your doctor. You may have to take diuretic tablets and modify your diet. Left untreated, it could lead to congestive heart failure.
