The turmoil in the Middle East is old news. It probably started 2600 years ago when the Babylonian's, having conquered Jerusalem, destroyed the Temple of Solomon, and took thousands of Hebrew slaves back to Babylon. The status of conflict continued throughout history. After the Babylonian's, came the Assyrians, the Persians, the Greeks, the Romans (they destroyed the second temple of Herod), the Byzantines, the Arabs, the western crusaders(to liberate the Holy Land), again the Arabs(the Saracens retook their holy places)...,the ottomans...and the story still goes on today. The conflicts of course worsened after the foundation of the new state of Israel in the last century. But whatever the conflict may be, it is striking that across the ages the motive remains the same~Religion~

At least as far back as Jesus's own generation, there have been some people who believed that they are living in the End Times. The turmoil in the Middle east has been going on since before the time of Jesus, although the players occasioanally change their names. I do not presume to know the Mind of God, but I don't believe this decade has any greater chance than the last decade of being the Last Decade. If you are concerned, whatever your faith may be, live your life as though you will meet your Creator tonight, you can't go wrong that way.

Our world will not end, Mankind has survived worse tragedies then these.

However, you talk about the worlds 'turmoil' as if it is new..the conflicts outside the Euro-American zone have been waging for hundreds of years, many due to the collapse of the European empires and subsequent failure to rebuild and prepare many nations for independance.

The violence is not getting worse. However, our fear is being played. We are told the 'terrorists' are out to get us, if we dont do (insert government policy) then the terrorists will kill us all. We're told everyday day that 'they' hate us, but who are they?

Since 911, we have yet to be told why 'They' hate us..and properly, not just 'because they are evil'. The media, a mockery of what it once was, has become a tool of the Right-Wing to play our fears. All foreign policy is justified if it kills 'Them'.

Think about it, we're told the invasion of Iraq, Afganistan and the turmoil in Lebannon is all linked. Any educated person will tell you their is no such connection, the Taliban are hell-bent on returning themselves to power, Hizbollah are a resistance group and Iraq is a nationalistic civil war..however, our governments tell us that 'They' are in control..and if we dont kill them first, they will kill us..

Therefore, the world is actually safer then it once was, in a perverse way. With Nuclear prolifiration rampant, war between major nations is impossible. War has become localised, centralised and less damadging then it once was.

No I do not think this is the "end of days." Millennialism http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millennialism has been with us for 2,000 years - and every time the "end" is predicted - it is wrong. I think Goldilocks is right too, but I only agree with her 50%. leaders do not act alone or come from no where. We (you,me everyone here on Answers and around the world) are the leaders. When we hold peace in our hearts and act in peace each day, when we vote for presidents who will risk peace rather than war and for senators unafraid of public opinion to say no to war, when we are willing to act to bring our hopes and beliefs into being, then we will all "work" together. We cannot wait for "leaders," if things need to change we first need to change ourselves.

An ending is nothing more than the preface to a new beginning.
I think it's time for the leaders of the world to work together and actually open their eyes to the fact that unless decisive steps are taken, terrible chaos could deepen.

Don't believe it. We'll go one and on and on...life is a cycle of death and rebirth, many think. We'd never know if the world ended, but let's do our part to keep it going; let's pretend we would know and that we wouldn't like it.
