How do I make the lines and boxes around the text go away? I am in word. It will let me edit. But it will not let me remove the boxes and lines. I tried, frame-no frame. Border-no border. Clicking on it and deleting...when I do that, it deletes the text, as well.

Paste into notepad first to remove HTML formatting.

The lines and boxes you're getting are HTML table and div tags, which Word recognizes and holds.

Notepad holds no formatting, so all you should get are Text, Tabs, and Spaces. You may have to clean up some of the tabs a little, but you won't get tables and divs.

Copy it again and paste into your document but this time use Edit, Paste Special and select Unicode Text not HTML. Pasting into Notepad would do somewhat the same thing but it's an extra step and not necessary. Right clicking in the Word document MAY give you a Paste Special option but I have a feeling that I had to set that up (and I can't remember how I did that!)

You may have to reformat it as you want but it will avoid the creation of tables within tables which is what often happens if you just use Paste.

The secret is *always* to use Paste Special as Unicode Text (or sometimes as RTF, if it's available). If you want any graphics, you have to copy and Paste them separately.

Chances are, the text on the web was contained inside a table. In Word, select the text with lines and boxes around it; then go to "Tables" menu and select "Convert", and then "Table to Text". Then just click "Ok".

When you copy/paste from an online source, only select exactly what you need. Often times on alot of those sites, if you 'select all' it will bring the frames with it. Select the text or images and thats it. Avoid all the excess junk around it, and you'll be fine from now on.

After you paste, look for the little "Paste Options" clip board thing at the end of the text pasted. Click on it and select "Text only"
