whts factors does clock speed have an impact on and wht should i look for in a processor if i want one for gaming

clock speed does matter, but not as much as bus speed on your motherboard... as far as the duo 1.8 being faster than a p4 3.0 do the math the duo uses 2 x 1.8 = 3.6

Clock speed isn't as important for overall speed of your computer as the amount of data it processes at one time.

Intel duo core has 2 processor son the die and the p4 only has one

think of the buss as a highway and the data as the cars that use that highway.

the duo uses 2 therefore it is effectively twice as wide as the p4

The duo is faster because it utilizes dual busses. The processer speed can only push as much as the buss allows.
