I would like to lower my car however I do have a few questions.
What would you recommend.
Lowering Springs or Coil Overs ?

what are the pro's and con's of these two, and will I need new shock's ?
I think I would pref. something that will allow me to adjust the height as I please.

I appreciate your feedback everyone.

springs will simply "drop" your car. very cheap but effective method of lowreing your car. however, it means that your car is now lower than normal (duh). meaning that the stock shocks will be compressed much higher than normal and hitting bumps and especially speed bumps will make them much more noticeable when you hit them. they won't spring back as much as they did with the stock springs on them. you may want to get additional shocks to combat this and it would be highly recommended.

coil overs are more expensive but better worth it. they are essentially springs that you can adjust at will. these are more for temporary use though. you can go driving around with these lowered all the time but it would not be advised. these are more for shows, competition and racing and such. they can be dialed in to certain heights as you want but, again, it's more temporary than permanent.

My fiancee says that coil overs are better because you can adjust the height up and down whenever you want. The lowering springs alone is a more permanent. It would cost you money in labor to make adjustments at the body shop each time. As for new shocks, in most cases, you wil not need new shocks but you will need to align your rims afterwards.

Best of luck

If you want to be able to ajust the height, you'll want coil-overs. And I definitely recommend getting new shocks to go with them.

I'm assuming your car has coil springs. Most modern cars do, but some older or unusual ones don't. If it has leaf springs, you'll need to modify the spring mounts or get lowering springs. And torsion bar suspensions are already adjustable.

Lowering springs fit in the stock location and are cheaper.

Coil overs use a threaded base with a smaller diameter spring to give you full adjustment. They cost a lot more and you have to buy a shock kit to go with them.

get coilovers so you can adjust if you get bigger rims or you get a ticket from the cops. I would recommend getting shocks so they can handle the stifffer spring rates. If you go with lowering springs for a 1 inch or so drop, your stock shocks should be able to handle it.
