Are you asking about webpages or online journals or CD-ROM's? There are different styles for each, and different approaches to all. Chances are, you're either dealing with MLA or APA. I use MLA most, as and English teacher.

If we're talking websites, some will tell you the citation should end up looking like this:

Huertero, Laura. "Webpage Citation in a Nutshell." Fairmont High School. 12 Sep 2004. Public Schools of Robeson County. 4 Aug 2006. .

(double spaced with hanging indent, of course)

Others do not require a "sponsoring organization," but only a website. Some may not require a full URL.

If you are dealing with CD-ROM's or electric journals, I suggest you use "Son of Citationmachine" (link below).

It depends on which style you're using--APA, MLA, Chicago, or what.
