I had to turn the computer off right after I sent it, and there is no copy of it in the "sent" file, but the e-mail I sent right before that one did show up.

You should have had a message come up that you still had mail to send when you turned computer off..If its not in the sent box i would say it didnt go.

Check your drafts folder, if it is not there you can resend with a line added "Please ignore this mail if it is being re-send to you".

if it's not in your sent file i would say that you lost it, try sending it again. the receiver of the e-mail can always delete it, if you sent two.
