Why is it that when I really have to poo I can't hold it in and have to run to the bathroom when I am at home, but when I am in class or somewhere public I can hold in my poo, even if I have to really go?

It's all in the mind, I guess.

Well, if it's any help, I can try and offer a physiological explanation (to part of it at least). Basically your rectum has two sphincter muscles (internal and external anal sphincters), which allow intestinal contents to pass when relaxed (and restrict movement when contracted). Food moving into the rectum causes the the activation of stretch receptors (nerves) in the rectum wall. This basically sets up a reflex which causes the internal anal sphincter muscle to relax (it's under involuntary control) and gives rise to the urge to defecate. However, the external anal sphincter is under voluntary control, so depending on whether it's convenient for you, you can either hold the urge or you can defecate. If you hold it in, the faeces in the anal canal move back up into the rectum to be defecated later.

That's not all: when you eat and food enters your stomach, gastric secretions cause the intestinal contents to move down to make way for the food coming in. So not long after eating you may also get the urge to go to the bathroom.

In your case, you may hold it in when you're in public, and then when you're at home there could be basically too much stored up to hold it anymore, so you have to let it out. Hope that helps some.

Probably because, your in a public setting, and your not totally comfortable with your surroundings, you put your mind in a place that tells you to hold it in, but while your at home it's your comfort zone, so, you don't even think about holding it in. However it really isn't a good idea to hold it in, it's not good for you!

It could be that you are embarrassed to poo in public and your body is more relaxed in a comfortable environment! Hope this helps your poo problem....

Because you don't want to go to the bathroom in public...everything is really gross and stuff. At home you are in a place where you know everything in there and you know what your touching.

This is a completely psycological situation.

When you are at home, your mind subconsiously thinks that you can always get to the bathroom without a problem

When you are elsewhere, your mind subconsiously doesn't want you to have to take a **** at a public restroom.

Get it?

Some people have a phobia about using public things that have others' germs on it. I have the same exact thing, plus its like that with Honey Buckets. It's perfectly natural.

Probably because of your comfort level in your home verses school. You should stop holding it in, this is not healthy.
