Mel is a major movie star being criticized for racism against the jew . When the majority of us are all racist in some kind of way , we just don't say it...... I actually like him more now for having the courage to speak his mind... in fact this is a free country and we should be able to speak our mind.

"The majority of us are racist in some kind of way?" Where exactly do you live?

What you're missing is the historical angle, of course. His father Hutton is an avowed anti-Semite who thinks the Holocaust is fiction. (Gee Hutton, where did 6.5 million people go in the early 1940s?)

His film "The Passion of the Christ" was widely viewed as anti-Semitic, which he denied.

Then he takes a few drinks and bombs down the highway in his Lexus and when stopped spouts off that it is the Jews' fault.

What makes us concerned in the world is all of that PLUS some people, yourself included, think he is someone to look up to.

And no, I am not Jewish.

But he could have killed someone. I don't know if what he said is racist or the truth. As a black person, some of what I hear that is said to be racist is the truth. If you say just anything unflattering about the Jews you are called anti-Semitic and you will pay if possible. I don't know why this idea persist that this is a free country. Singers, Earth Kitt (spoke out) and Freda Payne (Bring the Boy's Home) were blacklisted after songs against the Vietnam War. Protesters against the Vietnam War and participants in the Civil Rights struggle were spied upon by the FBI as part of CoIntelpro (Counter Intelligence Program). We should be able to speak our minds not when it's just favorable to the government or a particular racial group. I draw the line at hurting people.

Well, if he's free to speak his mind, then I'm free to call him on it. I don't like people making slurs about Jews because I'm part Jew myself and Jews have suffered enough. You like him more because he "spoke his mind"? You like the fact that he's being a blatant a$$hole? Wow, you like f**ked-up things. Your taste is *impeccable*! That was sarcasm, since you seem too stupid to realize that on your own, based on your question. If you're racist, the only time you should say something about it is when you're admitting that you're wrong and trying to change. Some opinions should be unvoiced--people look up to Mel for some unknown reason (I personally am not a fan of bigoted psychos who make derogatory movies and statements) and with the power of celebrity comes the responsibility of being a good role model. I'm hard on him because he should hold himself to higher standards. Come to think of it, so should you.

First of all, the drunk has no right to drive on a public road and put other citizens in danger. He is also a public figure and should have enough control to not spout out racial slurs. You say the majority of us are racist to some extent? Well whether that be true or not, we don't go around spewing hateful worlds out loud. He's been a drunken idiot for a number of years and he's lucky his wife hasn't left his azz.

Well, as much as I like Mel Gibson...he's been pretty hard on calling some folks to account for their hypocrisy. Now the shoe's just on the other foot. He'll survive...and he'll be a better man because of it.

Your half right anyway. He just got drunk and made an *** of himself. Certainly it wouldn't be any big deal if he wasn't famous.
As far as this being a free country and having the courage to speak his mind ... he was talking garbage my dear ... and while he was doing this he came very close to pissing on a police officer?

Personally, I don't really care about it. I mean, yes, I found his comments mildly offensive, but, so what? I find Micheal Jackson's alleged behavior offensive, but I still listen to his music. So long as Mel Gibson continues to make entertaining movies, I'll continue to watch them. I didn't watch Passion, & I doubt I ever will.

That is right. I agree with you. For example, normal people get into motorcycle accidents all the time, but when Ben Roethlisberger got into one, it was really big news. It's juts because he is famous. That's all. And he should be able to speak his mind.

It is media driven . I personal do not think he did anything wrong , but should not be given any special treatment for the dui . But as for the remarks , it is no big deal , just media spinning something to sell more of there trashy tabloid hoopla.
