The war ended on September 2 1945 when Japan surrendered. Even though Germany signed earlier they were still at war with Japan until its surrender.

September 2nd 1945, when the Armistice was signed between the allies and Japan, being in charge of the allies General Douglas McArthur, and signing on behalf of japan's Emperor, Hirohito, S. Furukaki.
This took place on the stern deck of the U.S. Battleship Missouri, at 1:35 pm.

Most of us are right. It was when Japan did surrender in September l945 and did sign the Surrender Papers. Japan and Germany were allies in this war so it did not end until they both were beaten and did surrender!

it was when japan surrendered on the USS Missouri even though Germany surrendered much earlier most troops were shuffled to the Pacific or held in Europe till the surrender of japan
