For framing walls, coated sinkers in 12d or 16d will get the job done, I have built homes using both and had good results. For pressure treated and outdoor applications use a coated screw. No matter what kind of nail you use wether it be ring shanks or spiral shank, they will work their way out over time. Avoid using galvanized on cedar because it will bleed and discolor.

A framing nail is a 16d cement coated sinker. A treated wood deck should be fastened with special screws, a lot less maintenance and cleaner look.
