Yes, simpleton, that's the way it works. One day, I had a lot of fun at the synagogue and secretly switched everybody's bags of gold. At first, everyone was mad at me, but now I'm a real hero cause we can claim that, as far as we know, all the gold in both bags around our necks is real. That's a lotta motzah!

No way! I'm Jewish, and I don't have a bag of gold. I feel like I've been ripped off. I'm going to go complain to my rabbi.

People of any race, religion, or nationality who have been forced out their own homes and their own countries are bound to value something portable and valuable to help them re-start their lives. The Cubans who fled Castro and the Chinese who fled Mao were no different.
