LOL....I agree, kinda like when they say " did you find everything you were looking for" no retard if I didn't I'd still be out looking for or asking you where it is instead placing it on the counter.

The cashier is just trying to be helpful. You may have not been able to find something and they could tell you where it is, or you may have other questions. The cashier maybe just trying to have friendly conversation and this is their way of starting a conversation.

Hahaha he/or she is just wondering if you're "all set" or in other words, ready to go.
Sometimes people suddenly change their minds and run back to put something back because they no longer want it, or decide to get more. This makes the rest of the line patient.
By saying "all set", you're telling that what you put on that table is your FINAL decision.

Sometimes, when they ask this question, people are reminded of one or two more things they intended to purchase when they came into the store - perhaps they forgot until then because they got distracted by all the shiny stuff on sale!

It gives you a chance to place the objects you were thinking about stealing on the table. That way they don't out right ask if you're hiding things in your coat or purse. That might seem rude.

Because some stores may offer stuff like ciggaretts, stamps, lotto cards ect that you can only buy at the customer service desk and it would be easier on you if you told them you wanted it when you got to the register.

I guess to make sure you don't need the cashier to get something for you.. like cigarettes or anything else not accessible?

I think cashiers in situations like this are just trying to be polite. That's why working in customer service is so difficult. It's difficult to please a customer no matter what you do.

Next time just say that and go..."Heeeere's your sign!" lol. It's their way of trying to be polite and hospitable. It's better than just them standing there with a blank look.

They usually ask me if I found everything I needed... which I think is pretty nice. They are trying to be polite.
