Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) is a scheme that is part of the IEEE 802.11 wireless networking standard to secure IEEE 802.11 wireless networks (also known as Wi-Fi networks). Because a wireless network broadcasts messages using radio, it is particularly susceptible to eavesdropping. WEP was intended to provide comparable confidentiality to a traditional wired network (in particular it doesn't protect users of the network from each other), hence the name. Several serious weaknesses were identified by cryptanalysts, and WEP was superseded by Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) in 2003, and then by the full IEEE 802.11i standard (also known as WPA2) in 2004. Despite the weaknesses, WEP provides a level of security that can deter casual snooping. The most widely recommended solution to WEP security problems is to switch to WPA or WPA2. Either is much more secure than WEP. Some old WiFi access points might need to be replaced to do this or have their operating system, in flash memory, upgraded; however, replacements are relatively inexpensive. Another alternative is to use a tunneling protocol, such as IPsec.

in your settings for the actual wireless modem/router, you can set up a password protect for it...not sure what other options you have as most modem/routers vary with their options...this is not the most secure as people out there know how to crack passwords...but its a start...also i think you have to get something that encrypts it?! not sure on the name sorry, but for now put a password on the conneciton.

A tough one,
There are a bunch of software that you can get to make it more secure, but my best advise is that you check CNet's free courses, think they have on [free] on this.
