i've always wondered this since i've watched The Animal. Can you mix two different species, like human and dog or cat and lamb, or something like that???

NO it is NOT possible

You CAN however, mix animals who are genetically similiar enough like a tiger and a lion. The Liger. HOWEVER, thier spawn (baby cat) will be Sterile an not able to reproduce.
Another example is the Mule wich is a cross between donkey and horse. The Mule is also a sterile hybrid. This is due to the different amounts of chromosones found in each animal.

To elaborate on serpy's answer, what she is trying to sayis that if the chromosome pairdont match up,then you cannot cross breed. With Horses and Donley,s the donkey has one less chromosome than the horse so when an offspring is produced, the extra chromosome "falls off", therefore creating a sterile Hybrid, like the mule. Yes you can breed similar animals but they must be in the same family, like the horse and the donkey are part of the euqine family, the lion and the tiger are part of the feline family. The animals must also be relatively the same size, too like you cant breed a lion with a house cat.

Imagine the ovum or egg having a very specific key hole. Then imagine that only the male of that species having the key that fits that key hole. If you try and force a cat's key into a dog's keyhole, you won't get a match. The lock won't open. This is how receptors work in genetics. What you read belongs in the Star or Enquirer, pure tabloid trash.

I've heard of cabbits (cat/rabbit crosses) and Ligers (lion/tiger) and of course Asses (female donkey/male horse) and mules (female horse/male donkey).

No way is that possible. Even if it were a dog wouldn't lower himself to that level.
