Which solo musical artists have shown the greatest deterioration in the quality of their work since leaving the groups that originally made them famous?

e.g.

STING

In The Police: Writes tightly-crafted, brilliantly spare and lyrically orginal albums like Reggatta de Blanc

After The Police: Words fail me. Audio chewing gum that gives AOR a bad name.

LOU REED

In the Velvet Underground: Phew, where do I start?

After the Velvet Underground: Phew, why didn't he stop? He's tried desperately, for well over 30 years, to recover the darkness, the sheer originality, the fragile, twisted songwriting, the visceral, ear-shredding power of the VU. And every single time (almost) he's come across as trying too hard lyrically, accompanied by music that's plodding and uninspired.

PS - Performers who were crap in their original groups, and are still crap now, don't count (still, you've gotta respect consistency). Nor do those who formed new groups, like Dave Grohl - that's a separate question.

Natalie Merchant. She basically disappeared after 10,000 Maniacs.

None of the Spice Girls made it solo.
