The last time I looked into this which was a long time ago, yes it is illegal to have a spinner knob on your car. They will make exceptions like if it is being used for a handycapped person or something like that but otherwise yea it's illegal as I remember.
At the same time, it's also one of those things where the only time they are going to say anything is if your already pulled over for something else. No one is going to pull you over for just having a spinner knob.

yes, in some states, no in other states. A spinner (suicide) knob is primarily used in industrial applications. You will want to check with your state to find out.

I'd suggest you ask your local coppers as it probably depends where you live. However, I personally wouldn't want one. The steering wheel is usually one of the first things the driver contacts in an accident, even if belted up and I wouldn't want a doorknob being driven in to my chest at high velocity or even worse, my head.

I have always heard they are illegal and as a bus driver I am insulted about the comment made. Sure would be nice if people didn't have to be so rude
