My friend's husband moved to France when his father died. He came back two months later , supposedly over the grief then They are together. My husband's father developed cancer and my husband moved out for five months. Who knows what he did when away but he apparently did something. He wants to come home. My neighbor's husband took up windsurfing and had a flirtation with someone at the office when his father had a heart attack. He's over that and they seem happy (she now windsurfs) What is it? Women may grieve over their mothers but they don't go crazy!

OK this is in no way sexist: Men deal with emotional issues much differently then women do. It is normal for a man to "go away" when there is emmotional unrest or in times of high-stress.
Women mostly talk things out...
Men can react more physically and need "cooling-off time" in my opinion.
When I lost my father I felt the need to be alone. Seeing familiar faces of family members is not what I wanted and that may be related to your question.
I hope this helps a little.
Oh and your comment about women going crazy....yes they do.

It's usually when men realize that they are going to die too someday....so they freak out a little.
