Answer to the 1 question is this:

a. take $4.75/5lb = $.95/lb
b. take $19.92/20lb= $.996/lb

so clearly it is cheaper per lb to buy the 5 lb bag of sugar.

answer to 2

if it takes 240 lbs for 6 lawns, then 240lbs/6lawns = 40 lbs of fertelizer for each lawn = 40lbs/lawn

answer to 3

8 home runs/15 softball games = .53 home runs/game

so if x = number of games then; .53 home runs/game * x = number of homeruns.

therefore the answer is .53 home runs/game * 45 games = 24 home runs.

done.

1. How much sugar do you need? :)
If you are looking for the lowest price per pound, there are a couple of ways of comparing.
Reduce both to price per pound.
If 5 lb costs 4.75, what does each lb cost.
If 20 lb costs 19.92, what does each lb cost.
The lower one is the better answer.

2. Rate of fertilizer?
I would assume that you want to know how much fertilizer you would put on each lawn if you have 240 lb for 6 lawns.
How would you figure out that problem?
If you had 1 lawn you would use all 240.
The next step would be 2 lawns to get the trick.

3. Do you agree with that statement? Why do you agree or disagree? Maria is quite the slugger, by the way.
I assume that if you are doing the ratio that you want the statement
x::y as a::b what can I say about the relationship between y and b if a=3x?
That answer will give the answer to your question.
