One way that we did in art was pretty simple, though often it makes the copy larger than the original.
What we did was take the original and place clear plastic sheet over it and use a dark pen like a wipe-off board marker to copy it onto the sheet. After that, place the sheet on a projector and project the image up onto the canvas, then trace the projected image onto the canvas.
Like I said, though, that will most likely make the second image bigger, but it works.

There are two steps you can take depending on how detailed the picture is. First, you can buy canvas paper for your printer depending on the size of the drawing. Scan the picture and print it out. Second, If it is bigger than 8 x 10 or 11 x 14 then you can trace the picture on tracing paper with a marker. Once you do that take a stick of graphite and rub it on the back of the tracing paper. Next you will retrace the lines on the tracing paper on top of the canvas. If it is not totally clear on the canvas then you can go over it with pencil on the canvas once again. It really depends on how much detail in the picture there is and how artistic you are. Have fun.

Using a light pencil draw a grid over the drawing (or on a transparent sheet that you hold over it) then lightly draw a grid with the same number of rows/columns on your canvas. Working block by block, copy a block from the drawing to the painting.
This should give you a properly scaled version of the same pic.

The best way to remove pencil lines is with a kneaded eraser, you can find them in art/hobby stores usually with charcoal/ drawing supplies. Try Michael's or my favorite, A.C. Moore. Good luck! Don't try soap, it may leave a residue on your canvas. Just thought of something, Mr. Clean Magic Eraser...

Scan the drawing and go to your good local photographer. Mine (europe) can print pictures on canvas. It can be done with any digital photgraph, and I do not see any difference btween an scan and an photograph in this respect. This way the drawing is on canvas... although it is not really painted.
good luck!
