I consulted with a my plastic surgeon and he said he can reduce me from 36 J to a 36 D.....do you think a D cup is still to big, and that I will still have back problems and a hard time fitting clothes?.......I am 5'6 and 170, small frame (size 7 to 8).

I have never heard of a 36 J that would mean you are a super tiny woman with gigantic boob... If so can l see. But no 36 D is not too big.

With the women that I have had in my psychotherapy/wellness practice over the last twenty plus years, who have been naturally D cup or have been reduced to a D - many have not been happy. Several plastic surgeons that I have consulted feel that C cup is the most comfortable, especially for a small bone, frame woman.
That being said, you have to think about your own sense of body image and what is right for you. Ask yourself questions - Do you absolutely want to be assured of comfort? Will you have any regret over the image that you have of your body if you look in the mirror and see yourself smaller? C cup is actually generous - but so many women have the desire to match a certain "ideal" in our society and have their breasts enhanced to a D cup.
At a J cup - D is going to seem a lot smaller to you. With a properly fitted bra you should be comfortable.
More questions to ask yourself: How old am I? How long have I lived with this? A woman client that had the reduction done fifteen years ago, who is 5'8 and 160 pounds just told me that she likes being a C cup . . . she had her reduction done at age 24, so she had not lived with it for several decades. On the other hand, women in the forties and fifties range, who have had the aches and pains for years - love their reductions to B and C size.
As for clothes - more than likely you will have trouble with fitting a D cup in a 7/8 dress size unless you buy separates.
Ultimately, with a good doctor, you will probably like either size. It will be a relief from the backaches, cutting shoulder straps. You will probably look back and wonder why you didn't do it sooner.
Good luck to you!

Hmm, I didn't even know there was a J cup! I am the same height as you, a little heavier (like 180) and I wear a size 12, and I'm a 36D. That suits me fine, but you have a small frame, so that might be a little big for you. Maybe a 36C? Talk to your doctor and see what he thinks, but since you are a small woman, a C cup might better suit you and be more comfortable. Good luck!

Well I'm 5 ft 3 in and 107 lbs and I wear a size one. I have full D implants (I'm a 32 D) I run six days a week with no pain ever. You don't sound like you have a small frame at all. Actually, at 170 lbs. you are considered to be overweight. You should be just fine with a D cup.

No, I think you will be fine with a D cup as you are taller than average. My sister had this surgery after years of back pain and ill fitting clothes. She went from a F to a C (she is 4"11) She looks and feels great now. Good luck.

D may still seem big but from a J its the farthest down your doctor can get you. I sympathize. I am a 32 E or 34 DD (depending on the company) and they suck, I would be so happy just to go back to a D cup. Take what you can get, that's the best the doctor can offer.

Yeah, but you should try to stay healthy. I am a D in a size 18 and still has trouble finding clothes that fit.

For your size i would say you should go for a B cup or a C cup.

i'm a 38D and 5'1; 136 lbs. and I cannot fit into anything and am seriously thinking about a reduction. I have back problems and the whole nine, i'd consider going smaller if I were you.
