Very Good Question.
In USA, oil and derivatives is not a subsidized govermental ration, it is a floating commodity that follows market trend, it is sold by big corporates " Big Fat Cats". members of their boarda usually are senators and policy makers.
So there are commissions paid, to white-collars, from securing Iraq's sales to those companies, in addition to those earned from weapons and arms manufacturing companies against waging war on Iraq. win-win
Gazoline retail prices, taxpayers money, people's rights, and the rest are all left on a paper in the dust bin.

Sure Iraq has oil. So do Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. So tell us why Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait and threatened the Saudi oilfields before we stopped him, first with "Desert Shield" and then with "Desert Storm"?
Oil is "high" because it is increasingly expensive to find at greater depths and in smaller quantities, increasingly expensive to produce for the same reason, and increasingly expensive to refine in this country because of tighter OSHA and EPA regulations. In the Canadian Tarsands areas, oil producers are already beginning to back out because of high refining costs. Think the USA has it bad? Many other countries pay twice as much for a gallon of gasoline.

OIL is high because we invaded Iraq.
By invading Iraq we destabilized the middle east, no body knows what will happen next.
That makes the oil traders nervous,so they inflate the price, out of fear that a major war will stop the flow of oil .

The price of oil has gone up for a number of reasons. One big reason is the recent re-industrialization of China. Demand for oil went up, so the price did too.

Because oil is traded on the open market. The demand from the BRIC countries and lack of refining capacity is leading to the higher prices.

Because we didn't invade for the oil we did it to enforce regime change. In case you dont remember Saddam was told to leave quietly and go.but he didn't so we had to go pull him out of his hole and show him the light!
