There would have been opportunities to kill Hitler- why didn't the U.S. send a sniper to do the job, and end WWII? Or, why didn't another country take up the opportunity?

Did Hitler have a lot of decoys (men who looked like him)?

Why didn't someone stop this evil monster before he committed his ensemble of atrocities? Did no one know that he was going to commit genocide? Wasn't the writing on the wall?

Please share your thoughts.

America wasn't affected by anything that Germany (or Hitler) did, so they didn't even enter WWII until after the war had been on for a couple years (when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor). A lot of Americans who wanted to join the war earlier had to defect to Canada interestingly enough and join the Canadian army. My grandfather was one of them.

As for why no one else assassinated him... Assassination is generally frowned upon in the west. And even if it wasn't, countries generally don't get involved with almost anything unless they are directly affected. Look at Rwanda and Darfur...

There was an attempt to assassinate Hitler but he escaped miraculously. During the cold war the C.I.A. contributed to the elimination of unwanted leaders until they realized that it doesn't work and it can bring somebody else even worse to power. See Vietnam (1963) and Chile (1973).

The causes of WWII cannot be attributed only to Hitler's madness, and it was his own madness and paranoia that caused his demise. Had he been killed during the '30s somebody else would have come to power and take his place. Maybe someone not as crazy who would have not made the mad mistakes Hitler did during the war.

Because hindsight is 20/20.

At that time very few people knew the dephs of evil Hitler was capable of, and it didn't become evident until AFTER the war when the concentration camps were liberated and the facts came out in the Nuremberg Trials.

Because hitler was all about self determination and improvment in Germany. Before krystalnacht, he was more Al Gore than Hitler. And after ww1, most were happy to let europe do their thing on their own.
