Okay, I'm basing this on wood bats because that is what I prefer to use...
Length and weight are relative. Swing the biggest bat you can without dipping your shoulder.
Hints: heaver bats are better for bunts and for contact hitters. Power hitters and pull hitters use lighter bats for quicker swings
Generally, I would recommend several bats of varrying weights to use in various situations (ie: bunting vs hitting for power, power pitchers vs junk ball throwers). As you get to understand what type of hitter you actually are, you will understand the significance of the different types for different situations.

Buy a nintendo D.S. or an extra type of hand-held recreation. Get a bop it with headphones so it does not annoy different folks, they are beautiful addictive. Just take as many unique types of amusement as you'll so it does not get tedious. Remember you wont be unsleeping for the complete 17 hours. Have a first-rate flight! :-)

28-32 in bat that weighs about 25-28 ounces

29 or 30 inch usually. Some that age are ok with 31 inch already.
