I feel that it would all depend on the person that is receiving this gift. Money it seems is always given and then sometimes it is used on junk.

If it's a child, take them to Disneyland. Or better yet, ask them what they would like to do on their birthday because that is their special day.

If it's an adult, anything is possible.

But regardless of what you do decide, everything should come from the heart. Show that person how much you love them. There is no price on that!!

A birthday cake.
My only request ever for a birthday gift was for one of those special made bakery birthday cakes with the hunk of roses and my name scribbled on it. This is a true.story.
My father was given the task of bringing it home. He stopped at the bakery and went to the "day old" rack and he got one of those cakes for my 17th birthday. Only trouble was what was written on the cake.
It said, "Happy Birthday Harold - 62!
Yes, I was disappointed then, but he is gone now, I'm much older and my entire family cracks up at that story. It was so typical of my dad to bring home a bargain. As Steve Allen once said. "The formula for good humor is "Morbidity plus Time equals Good Humor." He was absolutely correct. It is my fondest memory of any birthday and I have enjoyed writing about it. Thanks for asking that question...you sure did make my day..

Nothing beats money. You get to choose what you want to do with it. It saves on disappointment. Gift certificates are a nice back-up, but it sucks if you get 10 to 10 different places.
