Gallon automobile gasoline... appx 6.5 lbs
Gallon Water appx 8 gallons
As others noted gasoline is less dense than water, but automobile gasoline is slightly more dense than Aviation fuel (but not by much).

It depends on what the conditions are (temperature and pressure) and what the gas is. From there you can compare the densities. The material with the higher density will weight more as each has the same volume (one gallon).
For example, water at 32 deg F has a density of 62.4 pounds per cubic foot.
Usually the gas will be less dense than water which would make the gallon of water weigh more than a gallon of gas.

Okay a gallon of two different substances will NOT weigh the same!!!
Gallons are a volume measurment not a weight measurement like lbs, grams etc... To answer your question though a gallon of water would weigh more (it should weigh around eight lbs)

The gallon of water weighs more because gas is less dense. But a gallon of gas is worth more to your car and a gallon of water is worth more to your life.

A gallon of water weighs more, because it is more dense.
They will not weigh the same, because a gallon is a measurement of VOLUME, not WEIGHT. So ignore the people who told you that.

we're not talking about pounds here. the weight of a gallon of some substance varies on how closely the atoms are grouped together. gas has 48 million/billion atoms per square cm. water has 53 million/billion atoms per square cm. thus water is heavier.

um, there is no teasing anyone's brain here; they are each a gallon, so they weigh the same. they are exactly the same weight. Each of them are a gallon.

Obviously, water weighs more. But to all of you stupid people who don't seem to get that a gallon is a measure of volume, not a measure of weight, let me reiterate: a GALLON is a measure of VOLUME. NOT a measure of WEIGHT.
