I'll be using it for school, video editing and music. I'd like to know which laptop has the best quality and longest lifetime. I've heard that laptops only last from 2 to 3 years.

Have had my Toshiba Satellite for 3 1/2 years and no problem - plus good warrenty on battery replacement and wonderful help from company with any advice needed - Also bought my grown son one 12/06 and he also has had great service and loves it as he is into video editing and music, something I am not. Both were bought from Best Buy and they have also been great to deal with. Good luck and enjoy!

Toshiba Satellite is the best to purchase. I bought mine over 4 years ago and the only thing I do to maintain its ability is upgrade the software that originally came on it. Its memory capacity is remarkable. I have not had to add memory or send it back for recall parts for any reason. Try to purchase what ever laptop that you get from Best Buy, they have the best warranty offers.

I believe a laptop will last as long as ya take care of it. Thats not to say that one cant get a lemon, which you can get from any manufacturer. i would say get a macbook cause you want to do video editing and ilife is a nice sweet for doing this. You can get microsoft office or use a free office suite like openoffice to do your school work.

For video, you are best off with a MAC. If you want a PC, I have a Toshiba that has been awesome. No problems in four years.
