What firewall are you using? You usually have to put the program on the firewall's "white-list". If you use windows firewall:-
-Open windows firewall from control pannel
-Make sure don't allow exceptions is NOT checked
-go to exceptions tab
-add your program.
Use similar procedure for other firewalls.

Usually, when you start a software program which connects to the Internet, your firewall will prompt you asking if you want to allow the connection or not. It will only prompt you the very first time the program trys to connect to the Internet. If you say "yes" then it will be added to the whitelist and your firewall will permit it all the time. If you say "no" then it will be added to the blacklist and will be blocked everytime. If in the future, you want to change a program's status then you have to edit the appropriate list. In your case, you go to your firewall's control settings and enter the program you want to connect to the Internet. All firewalls are different and therefore the steps are different as well. Do you know which firewall you are using?
