They needed a scape goat. After WW1 there was a lot of poverty in Germany. The Jews, however, were largely successfull at rebuilding their lives, communities and businesses. Like the leftists in the U.S. the Nazis used jealousy of the successfull Jews as a way to get power. After all, it is easier to blame somebody else for your failures, than to take responsibility yourself.

Hitler mostly used hatred of Jews to get political power. Himmler did most of the actual killing and organization of the Holocaust.

This is an easy one to answer Hitler killed the Jews because of hatred. The Jews were becoming a powerful group of people, economically in Germany during the 1930's.
Prejudice of this kind is a true form of ignorance and
hatred of this kind usually comes from a deep seated prejudice that one is taught either as a child or through a negative life experience. When we are insecure. or live in fear then we feel anger and we have to blame someone. And, usually that someone is the person is different; who stands out from the crowd.

There has been prejudice against the Jews for centuries because they are an organized group of people who seem to be able to overcome adversity. They usually have strong family ties and yes as you mentioned most of them are highly educated.

We can ask why Hitler killed the Jews or why the Germans allowed Hitler to commit this horrible crime. But, more important is how to we prevent this from ever happening to any group of people ever again? The point is to learn from history the lessons of life and then take steps within our lives to make sure that we never make the same mistake. We need to treat all people with respect and dignity no matter what!

Hitler killed many people from many ethnic groups. The Jews were just part of the Holocaust.

Hitler believed that only through the genetic purity of the Aryan race, and strict conformity with government agendas, could the world be saved from the rabble and the terrorists that threatened it.

So, Hitler instituted a program to cleanse all German-occupied countries of any other racial bloodline. He killed Jews, Arabs, Gypsies. He also killed homosexuals, because they were against God's plan. Only by eliminating all of those radical immoral influences could his country regain its strength and moral purity.

Hitler had a very deep hatred for Jews. he also had an insatiable desire to be a very powerful man. He was very briliant actually, but very evil. Hitler's hatred may have come from experiences he had with certain people in the past, and those people were Jews. But also, remember, that in his time, anti semitism was very prominent. Hitler took it to a whole new level, and the world saw the evil that was in it.

Because he had to. In order to motivate German citizens, who were at the time suffering from a depression, he vilified the jews and told the people that the jews had all the money while they were dirt poor. He got people motivated, alright. He damn near conquered the world.
It was a despicable policy and millions were killed for the sake of politics, but it was also brilliant.
Think about this: if the German atomic scientists hadn't defected to the US, we could all be speaking German right now.

Someone mentioned that Hitler killed Jews, homosexuals etc. because it didn't go along with God's plan I believe that Hitler was an atheist/pagan. He mentioned God in his speeches, but I believe that he was probably just using that to motivate his people, and to convey a powerful sense of purpose. Hitler didn't attend church regularly and it looks like he skipped over the part of the Bible that says "Thou shalt not kill" and the part that says that the tribe of Israel are the chosen people of God.

This must be disappointing to Liberals who want to pin the Holocaust on Christianity, and to draw similarities with Bush. BTW it does not "sound familiar" to me-killing Jews, killing homosexuals etc. where's the comparison th Bush? I think you just oppose Christianity for other reasons, and would like to throw in the kitchen sink, so you'll feel better about getting rid of it.

You want to blame Hitler's actions on something? Blame it on WWI, his niece's suicide, his poverty, and his rejection from art school.

As for Christianity, what if I decided to accept Liberal ideology and decided to save the environment. In order to do this, I start killing everyone who littered, polluted or cut down a tree. Does this mean we should abandon all Liberal ideologies because "it causes people to kill?"

The very brief explanation is he used the Jews as an excuse to rally the Germans to back his plan of domination. He truly believed in the Superior Race and the Jews did not fit into his mold.

Not only Jews, but gypsies, poles and several other ethnic groups, as well as handicapped people and anyone else who didn't meet his standards for the "Master Race."

Of course, Hitler didn't do all this by himself. He had lots of help... Not only from the soldiers who did most of the dirty work, but from the "Good Citizens" who turned their backs on the situation and refused to acknowledge what was happening, or to try to do anything to stop it.

Hitler killed over 6 million Jews because he was completely out of his mind. he was certifiably crazy. I'm not saying thats an excuse to the contrary I'm very much against the holocaust. some of my family is Jewish so this problem is personal!!!!
