If you found out something heartbreaking about someone you really despised. Would you feel sorry for them out of pity? Would you start talking to them and be nice? Or continue on like nothing happened.

i don't think this has to do with why she acts the way she does(why i despise her)
i prob. still won't deal with her much...i'm still decent...good evening, good night kinda thing

If I truly despised someone, I would still feel sorry for them, out of empathy. But I would not go out of my way to talk to them, or be nice, because honestly, if I despised them, I'm sure they would have picked up on that. If I was suddenly nice, it would come off as fake.

I agree with Naj- I would re-evaluate why I despised them, and just let it go.

There must be a reason you really dislike this person. Only you know the reason. Now that you found out this thing that happened to them, could it have somehow been the cause of them to be the way you find so disagreeable. If so then maybe knowing this and this is why they behave the way they do, you could open the door a crack and try to understand them better.
If after doing this or you are sure that this has nothing to do with the way they are. leave it alone. If they ever bring it up. Take one step at a time.

Well this happened actually. I did feel sorry once again and tried to be a friend and help her out only to be knifed in the back once again! So that was the last straw - what comes around goes around, so I just totally removed myself. Bad things are only going her way more and more, now I kind of enjoy it secretly - I know that is wrong and mean and I will pay for that somehow, so I try to not revel in it anyway.

Humans are such strange creatures... U either Love or Hate them.... and at times pity makes us do things we Love and Hate. bottom line though, sincerely "shouts out" in everything we do and say unless we're the best actors in the world. And than again if we'll always acting won't it be a pain !!! Anyway I recommend that if you are sincere go for it, if not just move on...

Personally, if someone has done something to make me truly despise them, then their heartbreaking sob stories are not going to affect me. If it's truly something sad, and I actually believe that it really happened to them, I might not go out of my way to be ugly to them, but it wouldn't make me any nicer.

well, i would feel sorry for them! some people act like jerks and we never know why until eventually you find out something like that about them and it explains why they are the way they are.

Who knows... something tragic and heartbreaking may be responsible for their current behavior. Sure, I would be sympathetic to them. Remember... kill them with kindness. :)

I'd feel sorry for them...for a couple minutes...then I'd get over it.
