i didn't want to pose it as a philosophical or religious question, which is why i put it here. i wanted to see if i could find a person with an educational/experiential background in a field of science who believed that large scale evolution has not occurred on earth.

Plenty of evidence against evolution.
First, the 'Cambrian explosion'; the millions of fossil types in Cambrian rock (oldest fossil bearing rocks) appear suddenly and fully formed and without any previous forms...IOW, there are no transitional forms.

Most well educated evolutionists when forced to ...will admit it, but very unwillingly, and even then they always want to seem to make new excuses for it. Usually they just don't say anything about it and hope noone finds out.

You should clarify your question. Evolution on the SMALL scale is PROVEN. By definition, evolution is the change in the alleles (characteristics) of a population over time. We have seen this first hand. Some examples are changing camouflage patterns on butterflys during the industrial revolution. The adaptation of various organisms to environmental changes due to human intervention.

The main argument is long term evolution where the evidence is largely based on the fossil record. In this point, you will find many arguments, most of them based on the idea that carbon dating is inaccurate and that there are holes in the fossil. In this case, you will likely not find a GOOD argument against long term evolution.

If you look at the evidence, and you believe that all the scientists in the world are not fabricating the data for personal gain, then there really isn't a good sign against macro evolution.

There is not a good argument against it. Modern evolutionary theory is supported by molecular genetics as well as the traditional fossil record, age of the earth, and other branches of legitimate scientific inquiry.

Most arguments against evolution are unsophisticated ("man could not have come from chimps"), irrelevant (e.g., arguing about the probability of a complex system coming together spontaneously), dishonest (the second law of thermodynamics argument), or just plain uninformed (the Cambrian explosion argument made earlier).

It needs to be kept in mind that evolution is an EFFECT not a CAUSE. Evolution does not drive the diversification of species, rather the sum total of the effects of how living systems change over time is what we think of as evolution.

Any "good" counter theory to evolution must address the sum total of the facts observed about how species change over time and MUST allow for verifiable predictions that can not be made by evolution alone.

The current counter arguments of "Creationism" and "ID" do not fit the above criteria.

Not a good one... sorry.

There are a lot of pathetic ones based on specious reasoning... There's one based on the second law of thermodynamics (sounds scienc-ee but skips a major point). You might find a couple on creationist... sorry.... Inteligent Design websites. In a pinch, those work just as good as the real deal. And its not like the religious zealots will check your work. Heck most people don't know real science from a hole in the ground...

The only argument against evolution that I can think of is-you asking a question like that lol!

It's impossible. People who argue against evolution have not taken the time and the courses to understand it. If you study it in an attempt to gain a full understanding of it in order to argue against it, inevitably you become convinced of its reality. No one who truly understands evolution believes in it. We are reduced to believing in or not believing in things we don't understand. If you understand evolution you come to accept it as the correct explanation for life history.
That said.....if you are arguing against evolution, pretty much you're arguing from a position of belief and ignorance. That means your argument is bogus.

The theory of evolution is too complex for me to understand. Therefore, life must have been created by magic.

You are in the wrong category of Answers.yahoo if you are looking for false pretenses. You have much better luck asking those who frequent the religion and spirituality category.
