Well, when I'm asked of my fav jazz artists, I always ask "alive or of all time?"

For the living artists, I love the legends like Sonny Rollins, Roy Haynes, Pharoah Sanders, George Coleman, Johnny Griffin. For the big dogs, I love Pat Metheny, too. Also Kenny Garrett, Wynton Marsalis, Branford Marsails, Nicholas Payton, Marcus Roberts, Jeff Tain Watts, Roy Hargrove, Cassandra Wilson, Joshua Redman, Herbie Hancock, and Tom Harrell.

For my fav's of all time, I love Monk, Duke, Charlie Parker, Coltrane, Miles, Elvin Jones, Joe Henderson, Ella Fitzgerald, Betty Carter, and the great Jaco Pastorius.

As for tunes, I like Footprints, the entire A Love Supreme album, So What, all of Monk's tunes, and many others that are more obscure.

Saw Metheny long time ago at Amazing Grace in Evanston, IL many times. I was into "fusion" a lot during the disco era. Though I listen to jazz once in a while now, blues delivers what I'm looking for. Join Paltalk.com and come into some of the rooms and listen to what we have.

I got my start with Return To Forever (Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Lenny White and a 19 year old guitarist named Al diMeola) in 1978. But I must say listening to "As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls" is truly headphone music. And the joy in "Ozark" is infectious.

John McLaughlin, of Mahavishnu fame has a son, Billy McLaughlin, who has some great jazz stuff out. And the guy who played such tasty guitar solos for Jefferson Starship is now producing incredible jazz guitar licks, Craig Chaquico.

And I find of particular interest a Norwegian keyboard player named Øystein Sevåg.

Want a sample of any of them?

I'm not a major Jazz fan (mainly listen to things like HipHop, R&B, Rock, Pop) but I do like Jazz music to relax with.

I've got a CD I brought a while back called "Smooth Jazz" (blue cover with 2CDs, one yellow one and one blue one) which is over 2 hours of 'Smooth relaxing Jazz' that really does relax me..in fact it normally makes me go to sleep within the first 5 songs.

Great question.

:-)
