I just want to post something about smoking.

I started smoking very young. Pre-teen.

I tried to quit smoking years later, to no avail. I quit smoking in some of my pregnancies...but not all of them. And then I started smoking right back again. I couldn't break the habit. So I smoked outside - took "breaks" away from my children, but then came in the house, and my kids had to smell smoke all over me.

With the pregnancy that I didn't quit - my son was born with breathing problems. I was told just to cut down, and maybe he'll be smaller. Nope. He had acute asthma. Had to have steroid treatments for his lungs. Which lowered his immune system. Which made him sick alot. Including the chicken pox a few times. Ear tubes in 3 times. And, granted, he's better now - all I can do is say I'm sorry.

Then, later on - after having most of the warning signs of emphysema before I even hit 30 - I found out that at the tender age that I started smoking - I did my lungs more damage than if I had started as an older person. I then had to take COPD testing. This is worse than asthma - it's where your airways feel like coffee stick straws. Smoking is the leading cause of COPD.

Now, that I have finally quit smoking - I can breathe. Don't need to take a few inhalers with me everywhere I go. I can walk the dog without my lungs feeling like they're on fire. I can smell everything. Taste everything.

But most importantly - breathe.

Don't smoke. It's really dumb. You don't look cool. In most states, teenagers will get a ticket for it. Smokers smell bad. And their breath smells bad. Perfume just covers it up - then all you smell like is smoke & perfume. And your teeth turn yellow. Sure, there's smokers' toothpaste. It doesn't work very well. And for most people, they even get a ring around the top of their lip, it's a nicotine stain. And your fingers get stained. Fingernails turn yellow with time.

Besides, it's just not fun.

No, I don't smoke and while health concerns are the foremost reasons, secondly is the cash cost of smoking. If someone starts smoking in their teens and smokes for another 40+ years, they have spent at least $250,000 or more on cigarettes and lighters over the course of that 40+ years - pack by pack, carton by carton, lighter by lighter. Small, seemingly insignificant amounts add up over the time period to be big money. The costs become a necessary expense to anyone who is addicted to nicotine. Indirectly, smoking keeps poor people poor. If they smoke in their houses then the house gets the nicotine film throughout and assuming that they own the house, they will have to clean it up to sell it or accept a lower price for it, etc. It's somewhat the same with cars. Smoking sucks money from your wallet.

No smoking is gross and shortens your life expectancy by up to ten years. Not to mention is yellows your teeth, makes you smell bad and is addictive.

No. It killed both of my grandfathers-barely knew either because of it. If you do quit. If you can't try nicotene replacement all the enjoyment without the dire health risks.
