Because, the feminine aspect of an effeminate male, is by no means feminine. No women act at all like that. No matter how campy she may be. So why purpetuate the stereotype, other than to provoke animosity from gay bashers, isn't this a not so good thing?
Instead of making progress for gay rights, they're only backsliding.

uhmmm,... no, no matter how drunk a woman gets, she doesn't slur her words as badly as some gay men slur thier words while still sober.
Oh I have lots of friends who are gay, both female and male, and only the females think its a hoot when I ask them this question.

I don't think that really matters, but I shall answer you, as a moderately effiminate gay male.
Some gay men act like the stereotypical gay man because they feel like doing that to express themselves (note: the actual expressions that have been stereotyped were around before the stereotypes were, and still will be when the stereotype is gone).
Some gay men act like the stereotypical gay man because that's all they know about how to act thanks to closed minded society that trys to play all gay men to be "stereotypical gay men"
Hope that helps.

David

First of all, you've only just scraped the surface of the reason that the concept of GENDER as you probably think of it is utter and complete BS. Not even going there; it's for a different discussion. I will say that you've admitted that it's SOME gay men. If they're being themselves, then what's the problem? They're not hurting anyone. The only problem is in the media's presentation of ONLY the stereotype, and the minds of people who refuse to see anything but the stereotype. Saying that men like that don't exist is stupid: they do and there's nothing wrong with that. The only problem is when people start saying that ALL gay men are like that. The stereotype (like all of 'em) encompasses SEVERAL aspects: there's speech, mannerisms, attitude, interests, hobbies. There's a LOT going on. So, where does it end? Do all gay men have to start liking sports because if they don't, they're perpetuating the stereotype? It's stupid because then you're just forcing everyone to conform to the antistereotype, and that's no better. People should be themselves, and should be allowed to. The person perpetuating the stereotype isn't the "effeminate" (for lack of a better word) gay man, but the straight people who won't see the true diversity of the individual involved, as well as the gay community at large.

Brokeback mountain they weren't too super of flamers, so as that one redeem in basic terms slightly. yet in the 80s-90s the only thank you to renowned "a gay" grew to become into in the event that they acted over the genuine fem they have been gay, or ladies have been donning plaid and doing "male initiatives" then they could desire to have been lesbians.

People have the right to express themselves any way they they like. I can't see anybody who's gay agreeing with this fascist notion of condemning someone for being different.

Well if some guys didn't act like that, where would you get the stereotype from?
Leave them alone, people are people. And some women do act like that, you have no idea...

Why do some girls act like ditzy, materialistic, brats? That sets the women's rights movement back as well. They're being who they are, who they want to be, or who they're told they can be by society.

Did you ever think they are just being themselves? You said no woman acts that way - so aren't they carving out their own niche?
