"Remediate" is not in the dictionary. Everywhere I look, I am referred to "remedy" and "remediation". "Remediate" comes up ok on the spell checker and I know what it means, but the grammer checker keeps throwing it out. It is also not in the thesaurus. Is it a word or not???

Sometimes, you can't trust your thesaurus and spellcheck. You need a bigger dictionary (I mean the big ones + the thesaurus too).
