Certificate is usually focused in one area.

Degree includes enough to make you "well-rounded"

Depending on what you are doing, either can be good. Degrees are more easily transferred to other areas of study, however, and take longer to earn usually.

certification
1 authentication, certification: validating the authenticity of something or someone
2 certification, enfranchisement: the act of certifying or bestowing a franchise on
3 certificate, certification, credential, credentials: a document attesting to the truth of certain stated facts
4 documentation, certification, corroboration: confirmation that some fact or statement is true

A degree is what proves that you have finished your studies at a university. And if it is at a college, it's called 'diploma' instead. Although in this dictionary I've found online no such difference is made:

Diploma: 1 diploma, sheepskin: a document certifying the successful completion of a course of study

Degree: 4 academic degree, degree: an award conferred by a college or university signifying that the recipient has satisfactorily completed a course of study; "he earned his degree at Princeton summa *** laude"

For example, I got my degree from UAB.

The Alabama Department of Education issued me a teaching certificate.
