My 4 man all star team today would be:

GK - Edwin Van Der Sar. He is safe handed and never makes costly mistakes.

D - Jamie Carrighar. He chases the ball all around the first third. He is an expert at tackling and he can play on the left or on the right or in the cenre.

M - Emerson. He is a defensive minded midfielder but he can go forward and score goals. He is consistant and never has a bad performance.

S - Ruud Van Nistelrooy. He is one of the best goalscorers on the planet. That's all that need to be said.

My 4 man all star team of all time though would consist of:

GK - Peter Schmeichel. He is unquestionably the greatest goalkeeper of all time. There is nobody even close to being better than him. He was a crucial part of the Manchester United team that won a vast amount of silverware. He was also one of the main reasons why Demark won Euro 96.

D- Paulo Maldini. The man is as legend and the perfect role model to children. Not only was he the greatest defender of his time, but he's still one of the best defenders of this time. Paulo was a different type of defender to what had ever been seen before. He was an orthadox wing-back that made runs beyond the midfield. He had pace, he had vision, he could pass, he could tackle. The man had everything that a defender needs and more.

M - Without a doubt it would have to be Sir Bobby Charlton. He was the first ever true all-rounder. He was the heart and soul of that Manchester United team that included such greats as Best, Law, Stiles, Stepney, etc. He is still Manchester United's top goalscorer ever. He did everything. He scored, he passed, he tackled, he ran, etc. But the most importand thing was his leadership skills. He knew what every player on the pitch needed to do and he made sure that they did it. He took the game by the scruff of the neck and almost individually won games. He was the man who insired, Roy Keane, Bryan Robson, Michael Ballack, Patrick Viera, etc. He is probably the greatest player ever to have played the game.

S - This is very difficult. Pele or Maradonna. I'm going with neither. The striker I would want in a World Cup final is 'The King'. No not Cantona. Denis Law.
Denis is the orrigional poacher. He would stand in the box for about 89 minuites waiting for the ball to come to him. Although he didn't always get a lot of oppertunities, the chances he did get, he took. We was the player who influenced Ruud Van Nistelrooy. With the line up that is behind Dinis in this all star team he would have lot's of oppertunities which would mean goals garore.

Steven Gerrard (what can i say...in peak performance he's the best! with his dribbling abbility and his 'thunder' ball...the midfield will be his mine)
and for striker.....hmmm...that's hard one...ok, i think I'll choose Thierry Henry (he's fast, smart and great finisher =)
