My grandfather is Portuguese. My mother is of a different nationality, am I elligible for Portuguese citizenship? If so how long does the process take? Lastly where can I get copies of his birth certificate?

I think you can, as like in Ireland, your mother is automatically a Portuguese citizen whether she knows it or not, as she herself was born to a Portuguese man. You'll need all the birth and marriage certificates involved (grandparents, your mother and her marriage/divorce certs) and yours to establish lineage, and declare your intentions formally at the Conservatória dos Registos Centrais. You'll have to ask her in helping to trace your grandfathers documents. The only other thing - were you born after 1981? If not, this might be a problem, as before this Portuguese nationality was passed on by your fathers side, and not by your mother. Which was horribly sexist, so they did away with it, but it may well still apply to those born before this year.
