It's because the US has always been against communist governments. The US is eager to "bring democracy back to Cuba".
Now, I'm originally from Europe, I have been to Cuba and I've been living in the US for a few years. It's true that Castro is a "dictator", in the sense that he is the only ruler and other political parties or different political opinions aren't allowed in Cuba. But if you compare Cuba to the rest of Latin America, at least Cubans have free health care, a high rate of literacy and the best doctors. They are poor, no doubt, but isn't all of Latin America poor? At least in Cuba people don't die of hunger and everybody goes to school.
The US is a great free place, but freedom of speech isn't everything you need in a democracy. If it had free (or at least more affordable) health care and more affordable education it would be an actual democracy. The way it is now, wealthy people have more rights than the poor, so not all citizens are equal and that contradicts the essence of "democracy". The US is a democracy built on money, where credit score, credit cards, loans, mortgages, and insurance companies rule.
Having said that, I love the ethnic and cultural diversity the US has, and its flexible economy, so you don't have to keep the same job all life long.

Not sure what you mean, the US government has taken no stand on it, expect to tell cuban americans and cubans living in Fla not to expect to much with the change of power.
Castro of course have been a curse to the Cuban people for decades now but no one is really thinking just hopeing his brother ( who was personally responsible for the death of thousands hisself at the start of thier rule) will change much.
Now many Cubans are hopeing this could be the start for trade with the US.

Does it matter? As long as communism remains in Cuba Castro will just be getting replaced by another communist.

The U.S. has been waiting politely for over 30 years for him to die...we even stopped trying to kill him.
Give us a break...we're like a kid on Christmas Eve...anticipation.

Well when Cuban refugees are dancing in the street in Florida because they think he is already dead....eh, you draw your own conclusions.
It may have something to do with him being a big poopoo head!
