Error message booting:floppy Disk Fail (40); when I put disk in and try to access: Please insert disk?

I have windows XP, generic computer. I changed the drive and cable and setting to Floppy 2 1/2, 1.44 and still get same message. (not sure if new drive is good, since I got it from another none operating computer). How can I fix this problem?

when i get errors i type them and the software name into google

I would say the floppy drive is either bad or hooked up incorrectly, check the cable.

It could be that the floppy needs a driver.
