Anyone know why he is almost never called Theodore? Even his parents call him Beaver. I love that show, but I have never seen an episode that explains the nickname. Must be in the 1st episode, but I don't think I ever saw that one.

His mom. Wait, that doesn't sound right... :)

Here's what Wikipedia says:
The show was built around young Theodore "Beaver" Cleaver (played by Jerry Mathers; he was given the nickname as a baby when his older brother mispronounced "Theodore" as "Tweedor" and their parents felt "Beaver" was better),

When Theodore was born, his brother, Wally (Tony Dow) tried to pronounce his new brother's name but ended up mouthing "Tweeter" which sounded like "Beaver" to his parents, Ward (Hugh Beaumont) & June (Barbara Billingsley) and so began the saga of Beaver Cleaver and the jokes about his name.
