There are no clear studies that prove that masturbation is healthy and keeps the prostate healthy. For every study that says it is, there is one that says it does not. The prostate is not a muscle but a gland, so it cannot get stronger by using it more. Over-use (3 ejaculations or more a week) would cause abbrasions, which can cause it to become congested and inflamed, which can lead to prostate issues.

Frequent masturbation and ejaculation (more than 3 times a week) stimulate acetylcholine/parasympathetic nervous functions excessively, resulting in the over production of sex hormones and neurotransmitters such as acetylcholine, dopamine and serotonin. Abundant and unusually amount of these hormones and neurotransmitters can cause the brain and adrenal glands to perform excessive dopamine-norepinephrine-epinephrine conversion and turn the brain and body functions to be extremely sympathetic. In other words, there is a big change of body chemistry when one excessively pratices masturbation.

Note: Masturbation is a healthy sexual behavior. Like other behaviors, when over practiced or addicted it can lead to both psychological and physiological imbalances.

The side effects of such changes to the body include:
Fatigue. Feeling tired all the time
Lower back pain
Stress / Anxiety
Thinning hair / Hair Loss
Soft / Weak Erection
Premature Ejaculation
Eye floaters or fuzzy vision
Groin / Testicular Pain
Pain or cramp in the pelvic cavity or/and tail bone

If above symptoms are experienced, you need to restore the balance of brain's acetylcholine / parasympathetic ratio, reduces the level of sex hormones in the body, and sedates sympathetic nervous function, or the symptoms would become worse.

If a man has a socially accepted outlet, then mastrubation becomes more of a "hobby" than a necessity. However, for good prostate health and for good general health, it is necessary for a man to ejaculate every so often. In the absence of another outlet (meaning a wife, girl friend, etc), then the only outlet is masturbation. So, yes, masturbation is good for a man's health

Is Masturbation Normal? While it once was regarded as a perversion and a sign of a mental problem, masturbation now is regarded as a normal, healthy sexual activity that is pleasant, fulfilling, acceptable and safe. It is a good way to experience sexual pleasure and can be done throughout life. Masturbation is only considered a problem when it inhibits sexual activity with a partner, is done in public, or causes significant distress to the person. It may cause distress if it is done compulsively and/or interferes with daily life and activities. Is Masturbation Harmful? In general, the medical community considers masturbation to be a natural and harmless expression of sexuality for both men and women. It does not cause any physical injury or harm to the body, and can be performed in moderation throughout a person's lifetime as a part of normal sexual behavior. Some cultures and religions oppose the use of masturbation or even label it as sinful. This can lead to guilt or shame about the behavior. Some experts suggest that masturbation can actually improve sexual health and relationships. By exploring your own body through masturbation, you can determine what is erotically pleasing to you and can share this with your partner. Some partners use mutual masturbation to discover techniques for a more satisfying sexual relationship and to add to their mutual intimacy.

Lots of people have heard all sorts of things about masturbation. Some people worry that masturbation may cause diseases, interfere with growth, cause mental problems, or stop a person from having children - but those things aren't true.

Masturbation is often considered a private topic, though, and some people may feel embarrassed to think or ask about it. And when you're too embarrassed to talk about something, you might learn things that may not be accurate. If you have worries or questions about masturbation, you may want to talk to your doctor, nurse, or health counselor - or someone knowledgeable in your family.

Everytime you ejaculate, you are using up more of your neurospinal fluid. Also, your sexual energy is the most potent form of bodily energy. Use it to be creative in a variety of areas of your interest instead of spending it all on one second of pleasure. Your sexual energy is like nuclear energy. Exploding it as nuclear bombs (ejaculatory orgasm) is a wasteful use of such potent energy. The same energy can be channelized to create the world of your dreams.
Please refer to tai chi techniques to better channelize your sexual energy - your potent life force.

I can't see it being 'good' for your health...

But it is rewarding...(for a while)

It probably wasn't designed to be beaten off....rather for reproductive purposes.

Be good to get a doctor to answer this one....
