I am thinking of visiting San Diego and staying with a friend. How much spending money do i need for a two week stay in September whilst also paying for my friend as I will be staying with her. I would like to visit all the major attractions, eat out in decent restaurents with one or two visits to the finest. We would also go out to bars & clubs in the evenings. I don't drive so taxis may me required. I have never been to the US and am from England so have no idea of costs in the US. Thanks

i went for six days, did all the touristy stuff, only ate at nice restaurants twice and only went clubbing twice and i spent $1500 for two of us, so i would say at least $2000 just to be safe.

Same as in London, few dollar here or there. It is one of the most expensive cities in the world, right up there with London. I suppose your friend is a local person and he or she my have some discount coupon. Show her this answer and ask, what is this discount coupon's any way? I have no idea of your personal standards so I am giving you city of London as a guide. One can hunt for discount coupons on Internet also. Have the local person plan the stuff for you. Please member, as a guest you will be conforming to her or his standard.

I hope your friend has a car, gas is about $3.50 or so a gallon much cheaper then London. I suggest renting a car if one of you can drive, public transport is at best spotty in USA, and cab can be expensive 2 fairs by public transport will more the make up the rental, not to mention the convenience- parking may be your worries at times only. Discuss the local transport with your friend be very frank, as a matter of fact discuss every details so you know what to expect. Do not want to sit (you can always do some things on your own) while friend goes to work, people in USA have few days of vacations and long hours of work.

I live in San Diego.
Zoo tickets=$25
Sea-world=$50
Wild Animal park=$25
Legoland=$40
Padre game at least $15
We have buses and trolleys and the coaster so you don't have to take a cab Mass Transit costs $2-$5 a trip but you can buy a bus pass for $60
Restraunt entree would probably be $8 for an aerage restruant
I would say bring a few hundred dollars
Have fun

A TON!! Here is how to get by cheaper...

- Drink straight from the bottle in the Strret of the gaslamp or Hillcrest or North Park. Disguise it in a Non-Alcholohic container. use the restroom at Horton Plaza (if downtown),

- Get a drunken Sailor or Marine to buy you drinks, act like you like him. Smile and fake a warm Southern (Mississippi) accent. (Call them 'Shug', "Yer such a darlin' thanx shug')

- Go to Balboa park

- Go to the Flame and have women buy you drinks or if you are a guy, go to Flicks or the brass rail and get guys to buy you drinks. Act like you like them.
