First, I would erase my hard drive so any data that I had could not be recovered. Use SDELETE to do this.
Next, go to free PC Tech and download the boot disk you need.
Finally, to to the Microsoft site and read the information about fdisk and format.
That is it. Your drive should be ready for a Windows 98 install.

The person with the windows 98 disk should know how to format the hard drive they will have to have or be able to make a 98 start up disk,or you could call and order a new disk for the computer you have,I have had to do this.

Negative. You can still retrieve partial data from a Re-Formatted Drive! You better have the money for some Expensive Data Recovery Software! I know theres software out there that will Retrieve and ERASE a hard drive beyond Retrieval. Good Luck!

Download utilities from the drive manufacturer and make a boot diskette or boot CD. Then boot from that, follow the prompts, and initiate a low-level format.

build a starup disk. (when formatting a floppy, check copy startup files-) or create a startup CD(easy with nero) and restart with that and type format c:/.....ect.
