Speaking as an American who has lived abroad for some time I have noticed several things about our government and Americans themeselves that have led us to become some of the most hated people in the world. First of all I think the general American's ignorance is one of the biggest problems. We are not brought up on world affairs and many people in the United States do not know what is going on in the world and how it interacts. Secondly it has become increasingly unpopular to criticize the governement. Our country was born out of questioning and rebellion, yet when it was time to attack Iraq everyone that ever questioned it has been deemed unpatriotic. Every reason to go to war especially the much talked about WMD's have never been found, and no direct links to terrorism has been found as well. This makes us look to the world like a bunch of liars, and a see through veil as to the real reason which was the oil. It is every Americans right to question the policies of the government and act on it, but somehow we all have forgotten that. Finally our one sided tactics against world opinion, instead of working together to work out solutions, with the whole world, instead of against it has also increased the worlds view of Americans as arrogant people only thinking of themselves. The policies of the Bush administration have been a major cause of many of these problems. I was once proud to flaunt my passport when travelling, now it's something that I hide.

We could all say blame Bush (which is ignorant), or we could address the undrlying causes..... Americans are richer than a lot of other countries, which breeds envy. Then we could also look at the fact that America often acts as the world police (a governmental policy for decades before Bush Jr or Sr came into the picture, since around FDR, I believe), countries get their national toes stepped on by us enforcing our values on their cultures. There are two sides to every conflict, and 99% of people think they could do better (couch quarterback syndrome) than the US does in any given situation, regardless of the US' reasoning for entering a conflict. Add to that the attitude of supreme entitlement held dear by most Americans, and you get a mix of hate, animosity, and resentment towards the USA.
As for responsibility, take a look in the mirror of the 2,500 lb SUV before you drive down the road all alone on the way to go get a cup of Starbucks then return home. We complain about gas costs, and troop costs, while we waste so much more than many countries can provide, and on top of that, we act as if the world owes it's resources to us. The troops situation is a dear one to me, since I am a troop myself, lol, but most Americans seem to forget that every single soldier volounteered to do what we feel is right, even if it is unpopular.
I am an American, and I love my country, but I feel we are an arrogant country that could be greatly improved upon. We have the ability, and therefore the duty to do what's right.....even if it costs us more money to operate our grossly overweight SUV's......just my opinion, take it or leave it.

The USA is not the most hated country in the world. It is the most envied. Big difference.
The libs and news media would like you to think it is a matter of hate because it fits their agenda of Bush Bashing. And a lot of the respondents to your post have taken that bait.
However, why do so many people want to immigrate here if it is the most hated country in the world? You don't go to somewhere you hate.

i was coming in here to say that if anyone says Bush i would just vomit everywhere. But you mindless punks are too fast. You must be children. America was hated world-wide before Bush was even around. The only time we are loved is when we are passing out money. BUSH HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. They don't like us as a country for the same reason that people will say they don't like another ethnic group...and it all boils down to the majority of people do like something/someone that is different than themselves.

Why it is the most hated.. because it is the current Super power. UK, France and Russia where hated also when they were the Super Power.
Currently the East hate USA for mainly supporting Israel.
Europe and the West hate USA for being so capitalistic, and everything is based on how to make extra buck. ( Americans are greedy and lack class in their eyes, even if the did not admit it.)
Who is responsible .. always was and always will be the POLITICIANS.

All the other countries hate the united states because they feel like all we do is show off our richness and start wars in other countries that isn't our country. But ofcourse the one to blame 4 having other countries hate the united states is our president geroge bush cause he likes war!

Admittedly some American polices are not popular, but the real reason we are hates is outside our country. Most of the world is envious of our lifestyles and wealth and feel that due to those things we try to impose our believes and yes, even government, on them. I am just glad to be an American.

1. Bush and his oligarchic companions sabotaged American democracy so they could pillage taxpayer resources.
2. Bush and his cabal of henchmen lied to the American people about Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq, and they continue to obfuscate the truth while their companies cash in, Iraqis suffer and American soldiers die.
3. Bush is bad for business and the economy. He is only interested in enriching himself and his friends.
4. Bush is bad for the future. He is compromising the prosperity of tomorrow's America by shortchanging today's children.
5. Bush is bad for the environment.
6. The Bush Administration has manipulated the media to the point of undermining the Constitutional guarantees of a Free Press.
7. Bush has tried to undermine the United Nations, a democratic institution created in large measure by Presidents Eisenhower and Truman. Without even understanding what the UN does, Bush has called it "irrelevant" when it fails to fall in line with his dictates.
8. Bush is inarticulate and projects a stereotype abroad of Americans being ignorant and myopic.
9. Bush torpedoes global agreements on everything from racism and global warming to biological weapons and land mines, and then expects the world to line up behind him.
10. Bush took positive patriotism and global support in the wake of 9/11 and forced it behind his own narrow self-interest in Iraq. He hijacked 9/11 for his own benefit.
11. Bush stands against everything America stands for.
