Almost all of the Mexican families that were in said areas at the time either fled back to Mexico or willingly became part of American society over the intervening 150 years, so that's not exactly a valid argument. Besides, if you know your history, any "claims" that Mexicans may make to such lands have no foundation in any international law; we took the territories as terms of the treaty--spoils-of-war, so to speak--the same way we took much of what is now Appalachia from the British at the end of the Revolutionary War.

Then they illegal immigrants would still cross borders because this isn't about where the border is but about what the laws of a country say. And laws are to be obeyed.

I'm sorry to say, but any of the parts they took back would soon become just as impoverished as the rest of Mexico. California has one of the largest economies in the world, and it ain't just because it's a nice piece of real estate. Mexico ain't poor because America "took" their land. I'm no Republican, but blaming others for your situation is usually BS. Why do YOU think Mexico is impoverished & America is wealthy? You think it's a matter of LOCATION?
