If you want to send mail from your Yahoo account using another program (outlook or Thunderbird) you use STMP and receive mail through POP3.

The actual servers you need to request it from vary depending on your email address. Yahoo has all of the information you need in its help section.

Incoming Mail Server (POP3): pop.mail.yahoo.com
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp.mail.yahoo.com

it is pop however if you a re suing the free email, this service is not provided. It is only for Yahoo mail pay accounts.
